Worcester Canoe Club recently received support from a Worcestershire County Council Public Health Community Wellbeing Grant.
The grant enabled the club to purchase two new beginner-friendly K2s, allowing adult beginners to develop their skills in a stable boat with an experienced volunteer coach.
“The impact of the project can already be seen through the experiences of new members. Sally, an adult beginner with the club, spoke positively about using the new K2 boat to practise her paddling alongside a more experienced volunteer. The opportunity to learn from others, gain confidence and be part of a supportive group demonstrates how activities like canoeing can help tackle loneliness and isolation while improving wellbeing.”
The new boats have already become invaluable for Worcester’s monthly K2 nights, enabling those newer to the sport to take part alongside some of the club’s most experienced paddlers – and have a great time!
Below, watch club chairman Mick Moran talk about the new additions to the Worcester fleet, and Sally trying out her technique in a K2 with coach Claudia.
A big thank you to Worcestershire County Council – these boats will be enjoyed for many years to come.
