Worcester Canoe Club Athletes Impress at European Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint Championships

Worcester Canoe Club was proudly represented on the international stage at the recent European Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint Championships, with Amy Green, Lochie Lovell and Freddy Fowler Rimell all competing for Great Britain against Europe’s best young paddlers.

Leading the Worcester performances was Amy Green, who continued her outstanding season with another excellent display in the highly competitive Under 23 Women’s K1 events. Backing up her silver medal-winning performance at the recent World Championships in Halifax, Canada. Amy produced another strong championship, finishing 6th in the K1 200m against a world-class field. She also secured 12th place in the K1 500m, demonstrating her consistency across both sprint distances and further establishing herself amongst Europe’s leading U23 athletes.

Making his first appearance at a major sprint championship was Lochie Lovell, who represented Great Britain in the U23 Men’s K1 200m. Competing against Europe’s best young sprint paddlers, Lochie gained invaluable international experience. Although he narrowly missed out on qualification for the finals, his performances showed great promise and provided an excellent platform to build on as he continues his development.

Freddy Fowler Rimell also enjoyed an encouraging championship, racing in the Junior Men’s K2 500m – the Olympic distance for men’s kayak doubles. Teaming up with his British partner, the pair finished a credible 17th overall in a fiercely contested event. As one of the younger athletes in the junior age group and still eligible to compete as a junior again in 2027, Freddy leaves the championships with plenty of confidence and valuable experience that will undoubtedly aid his continued progression.

Everyone at Worcester Canoe Club is immensely proud of Amy, Lochie and Freddy for representing both Great Britain and the club with distinction on the European stage. Their performances reflect the hard work, commitment and dedication they have shown throughout the season, and the club looks forward to watching all three athletes continue their development as they build towards an exciting 2027 campaign.
