On Sunday 31 May 2026, Worcester took part in Paddle UK’s Big Paddle Cleanup.

Volunteers of all ages from Worcester Canoe Club teamed up with the Open Canoe Association West Midlands Branch to litter pick the club’s home stretch of water on the River Severn, focusing on the 4-mile section between Diglis and Bevere weirs.

The 40-strong team filled 10 bags with litter found in the river and along the banks, including bits of plastic bag, bottles, tennis balls, and even half a kayak and shopping trolleys – not all of which would fit neatly into a Paddle Cleanup bag!

As all good ventures should be, the cleanup was followed by tea and cake at the club. 🍰

Thank you to all the volunteers for cleaning up this beautiful stretch of river. See you again next year. 🚮
