Starting Canoeing

Worcester Canoe Club always welcomes new members whether they are experienced canoeists or have never been in a boat before.  We have members from aged 7 to 80, who come in all shapes and sizes and range from hard core athletes to casual recreational paddlers.

Canoeing is a diverse sport and pastime.  Most of our members regularly paddle racing kayaks, and many of them race, but many others paddle for fun and fitness.  Canoeing is great sport – it’s easy to start but can be as technical and challenging as you like. It’s great for your coordination, balance and fitness and can be as sociable as you want it to be. On top of all that, you get to spend time on Britain’s beautiful waterways.

If you are interested in joining us please contact the membership secretary, John Talbot – details can be found on the How to Join page.

Want to give it a go?

We organise several Starter Sessions  over the Summer, starting fairly soon after Easter.  These are free, no obligation one-off sessions to give you an idea what it’s all about and to see if you like it.  Sessions are normally at 6pm on a weekday and last an hour and a half.  Our experienced coaches will show you round, explain the boats and equipment and get you paddling in front of the club.

Email if you are interested or have any questions.

Can my children give it a try?

They certainly can.  You can either paddle as a family, or they can do it on their own.  Sessions are carefully supervised by experienced coaches.

What if I want to do a bit more?

If you’ve enjoyed your experience we run short courses to get you started.  These comprise of 3 sessions over three weeks which start the week after you’ve done starter session. To join one of these courses, you will need to take out a temporary membership at a cost of £30.  Sessions tend to be after work during the week, normally 6pm on Monday or Wednesday for adults, a bit earlier for children.

So that was good, how do I do more?

If you want to carry on you will need to take out full membership [see How to Join].  The temporary membership fee you have already paid will be deducted from the listed full membership fee.
