Worcester Canoe Club member Sara Beecham is fundraising for Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) and to work to achieve Bathing Water Status for Worcester’s section of the River Severn.

You can support her by donating to her fundraiser or by getting yourself some Hasler Final merch!

Growing up by the sea, some of my fondest memories are of time spent in the water. Now, I find that same sense of joy and peace while kayaking on the River Severn amongst other beautiful waterways. I’ve seen firsthand how spending time on the water is so beneficial for people’s well-being, but am passionate about the health of our waterways, not just for people, for all the species that live in or around them.

I am planning to complete two marathons – one running and one paddling – and am fundraising for Surfers Against Sewage (SAS). Their mission is to unite, empower, and support individuals in protecting our oceans, beaches, and rivers. I have witnessed children get ill from being in our local river, and giving up the sport; I have seen the data on the deteriorating state of UK rivers and seas. I want to help create a safer, cleaner environment for everyone. Through this fundraiser, I also hope to work with SAS to achieve Bathing Water Status for the Worcester section of the River Severn. This would mean the water is regularly monitored.

SAS is a community dedicated to safeguarding our waters. They work to address issues like sewage spills and plastic waste, creating a healthier environment for all. By donating, you’re directly supporting their efforts to improve the quality of our rivers and oceans, and empowering communities like ours to protect the places we love. Every contribution, big or small, helps us work towards a cleaner, healthier future for our waterways. Thank you for your support!
